Overview

A business specialising in the overhaul and refurbishment of heavy mining equipment operates an 11/1kV underground substation to power its facility. The business required a formal compliance audit of the substation under AS5368 — the Australian Standard for electrical installations in underground mines — along with arc flash and arc fault containment assessments to meet their safety obligations and support ongoing operational activities.

Scope of Work

• RPEQ-certified audit of the 11/1kV underground substation against the requirements of AS5368, identifying any gaps in compliance and documenting findings
• Arc flash study for the substation, determining incident energy levels at relevant equipment and establishing arc flash protection boundaries
• Arc fault containment study assessing the ability of the substation enclosure to contain an arc fault event, and identifying any venting or containment requirements
• Preparation of formal engineering reports for each study, certified by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
